My wife and I fell in love with Rincon del Mar in 2009. The town thrived mostly on fishing back then. I instantly fell in love with the vibe there. The somewhat crazy challenge of introducing the town to foreigners has been a success, but most importantly, we’re thrilled that the same atmosphere still prevails in the town.
Dimis, the manager, was born in the town. He has a phenomenal collection of fascinating stories about the town and its history.

Essential Massage
An essential massage to shake off the stress of lounging in a hammock ? Masseuses come directly to the hostel, allowing you to enjoy the seaside view while they take care of you.
Paddleboarding
Excellent guide/instructor. Best enjoyed in the early morning for optimal conditions.
Scuba Diving
Scuba diving (great when the dive center is open) – 30-degree water, no currents, no intimidating big fish. Thousands of small fish and beautiful corals await. No experience necessary.
Bioluminescent Plankton
Another favorite activity. Best done when there’s no moon or before it rises. Possible around 15 days a month under optimal conditions. Departure around 5:30 PM heading to Bird Island (no landing, it’s a sanctuary). We await sunset while observing hundreds of birds from 6 different species. Then, we head to a mangrove (not the same as the mangrove tour, of course). Once it’s completely dark, we dive in, and the magic happens. Bioluminescence is spectacular year-round. Return to Rincon around 8:30 PM.
Mangrove Tour
One of my favorite activities. The guide picks you up at the hostel and takes you to their association (a 10-minute walk) explaining all the work done to recover the mangrove. You’ll be taken in canoes (maximum per canoe), and the guide will propel you with a pole. You’ll see many birds not visible from the beach, just 300 meters away. The guide leaves us at a farm where sloths can be observed. Return to the canoe and back to the hostel. The tour takes about 2 hours and starts around 4:00 PM. It’s a must-do and very affordable too!
